Tata Punch is Tata Motor’s Star Product. Since its launch back in October 2021, it has been selling in 5 digits every single month. In fact, it has also crossed the mark of 2,00,000 sales in the matter of 2 years. It rivals with products like Maruti Fronx and Hyundai Exter, it also rivals with Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite, but these products don’t create a worthy competition as they don’t sell much, as compared to the Punch. Though talking about the Fronx and the Exter, recently they were creating a bit of buzz in the competition as their makers had introduced them into their CNG avatar too. And somewhere or the other, the Punch was lacking behind. But no worries now because Tata Motors have recently launched the Punch in its CNG avatar, named Tata Punch iCNG.
Tata Punch is Tata’s mini SUV. It is a 5 seater vehicle. It is priced between 6.5 to 10.5 lakh rupees. It was launched back in October 2021. It is based on the ALFA - ARC platform which also underpins theTata Altroz. The unique point of this architecture is that the doors open out wide up to 90 degrees. It is available in 4 variants -
It also gets 3 customizable packs for its specific variants -
Tata Punch iCNG is Punch’s CNG variable. It is equipped with Tata’s patented Twin Cylinder Technology. This consists of 2 small CNG cylinders which are compensating to one big CNG cylinder. These 2 small CNG cylinders are placed where usually spare tyres are placed. It results in a decent amount of boot space left in the boot by not compromising the CNG cylinder’s capacity.
Tata Punch iCNG is available in total of 3 variants -
It is also being provided with Punch’s primary customised accessory packs for specific variants -
It is available only with Manual Transmission option.
Punch iCNG is going to be sold with the same engine option which its primary Petrol only avatar gets -
1.2 L - 3 cylinder - Petrol Engine →72 PS & 103 Nm of torque.
It is mated with the 5-speed Manual gearbox only.
These power figures are generated when the car is in the CNG mode.
When shifted to Petrol mode, the figures see a noticeable jump → 87 PS & 113 Nm of torque.
Tata Motors have introduced some new features with the launch of Tata Punch iCNG.
Tata Punch iCNG is priced between ₹ 7.10 lakhs to ₹ 9.68 lakhs.
Its almost 1.4 lakhs costlier than its Petrol only base variant Pure MT.
Its 1.1 lakh cheaper than Exter’s CNG base variant - S CNG.
Its 1.2 lakhs cheaper than Fronx’s CNG base variant - Sigma CNG.
We feel its a good package overall. It consists of practicality and affordability at the same time being a CNG variant. And surely it could sell more than before as it would provide convenience to the consumers.
