JSW MG Motor India is gearing up to launch an enhanced version of its highest-selling electric car, the Windsor EV, on May 6, 2025. The new model will be called the Windsor Pro, and it will be more powerful, feature-laden, and technology-rich.
The MG Windsor Pro has already been a massive success in India. Over 20,000 units have been sold since its launch in September 2024. It has even been the number one best-selling electric car in India for seven months on the trot. Now, MG wants to push it further with the Windsor Pro.
The new MG Windsor Pro will have some important upgrades. The most important of these is a bigger battery. The Windsor currently has a 38 kWh battery offering a range of 332 km on a full charge. But the Windsor Pro will probably have a 50.6 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 460 km. That means you will be able to go farther without requiring a recharge.
The second great feature is something called Vehicle-to-Load (V2L). That means that the vehicle can be used to charge small devices, like a mini cooler, a notebook, or some gear. In essence, it is equivalent to having a power bank on the go.
Windsor Pro could get some luxury features that are missing in the previous model. Some of these are:
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature
Electrically adjustable front passenger seat
Level 2 ADAS (Driver Assistance System) for enhanced safety
The Windsor Pro is also going to inherit all the good things from the top-of-the-range version called Essence, including:
A digital driver display
A big 15.6-inch infotainment display
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration
Wireless charging of smartphones
A fixed glass roof panel
Ambient lighting setup
Back seat recliner
A 9-speaker Infinity music setup
The car will still use a single electric motor. This motor gives 134 horsepower (hp) and 200 Nm of torque, which is strong enough for daily driving. MG has not confirmed if the Windsor Pro will have more power than this, but we’ll find out soon.
Presently, the base MG Windsor comes in three variants — Excite, Exclusive, and Essence. Prices (without Battery-as-a-Service or BaaS) start at ₹14 lakh and go up to ₹16 lakh.
MG also offers the Windsor with the BaaS plan, lowering the base price to ₹12 lakh from ₹10 lakh. We are not aware if the Windsor Pro will be available under this BaaS plan or at full price only.
The Windsor Pro will also face tough competition from other new electric cars in India, including:
Tata Curvv EV
Mahindra BE 6
Mahindra XUV 9e
Hyundai Creta Electric
BYD Atto 3
Lower models of MG ZS EV
These cars will also try to entice EV customers with new features, fashionable designs, and decent performance.
MG is doing extremely well in the electric vehicle segment. In April 2025, MG sold 5,829 vehicles, a 23% increase from April last year. In March 2025, over 85% of MG's total sales were electric vehicles, and the Windsor was the top-selling EV in India.
The new MG Windsor Pro will simplify electric driving even further and make it more pleasant. With an increased battery pack, cleverer technology, and improved comfort, it could be a super choice for someone looking for a strong and stylish EV. Its release on May 6, 2025, will show us if it is all worth the hype.
