MG Motor India, which was the first to provide electric vehicle (EV) space, is set to launch a new variant of its Windsor EV. The new model will come with a larger 50kWh battery pack that will propel its range and performance by leaps and bounds. The launch is scheduled for April 2025.
The MG Windsor EV has a 38kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a full-charge range of approximately 331 km. It has a single front-axle mounted motor with 134 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. It also has four drive modes - Eco, Eco+, Normal, and Sport.
The new 50kWh variant will come with a greater range of nearly 460 km on full charge, ARAI MIDC certified. This is possible because of the larger battery pack from the international market MG ZS EV. The battery will charge from 0 to 80 percent capacity in around 46 minutes with a 50kW DC fast charger and around 16 hours using an AC charger.
Among the 2025 Windsor EV's strongest points is that it will come pre-equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The feature will enhance safety and driving ease through features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane assist. The features will match the international Cloud EV model.
The new Windsor EV will be Rs 14 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) priced. With the addition of the new 50kWh variant in the mix, prices will rise by Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh, making the new car cost Rs 16 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. This puts the Windsor EV on par with the current electric SUVs such as the Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta Electric, which are available in the market. Riding the Current Waves of Sales
MG Motor saw a 26% fall in Windsor EV sales during February 2025 compared to January. The cause is primarily because consumers held back and waited patiently for the launch of the new 50kWh model, refraining from buying. Increased range and better features of the new car are expected to boost sales and make MG a market leader in the EV sector.
Along with enhancing the usage of EVs even more, MG Motor has also introduced programs like the "Battery-as-a-Service" program. Under the program, individuals can buy battery utilization by the kilometre at 3.5 rupees and pay a minimum use fee for the battery per month. This reduces the cost of buying a vehicle at a lower price for the masses.
