We rarely doubt Japanese technology, then whether it be in any career field, we know that they will get things right. Doing this is not even wrong or a misjudgment, as we are known for their brand image and the products they have brought out in history. The same is the case in the Indian Automobile Industry. Toyota, Suzuki, and Honda are popular for the standard of reliability they offer in their creations. But, what if, we tell you currently things are not that right with one of these Japanese brands? We are talking about Toyota, which is also named Toyota Kirloskar Motor in India. An issue that led them to stop the production of their most popular SUVs and an MPV - Fortuner, Hilux, and Innova. Let us get into the topic of Why Toyota halted sales of Fortuner and Innova in India.
In 2023, there are very less brands we can trust. As technology is advancing day by day, the risk of them being unreliable is on the rise, too. But amongst these popular brands adopting such technology, and simultaneously increasing the risk of being unreliable, there are a few brands that are still being trusted blindly. Toyota is what we are talking about mostly. If you get into any Toyota vehicle of the modern age, you will find no reason for it to show signs of unreliability because they get their engineering aspect right, don’t they?
But, as we said that recently, due to one small engineering defect Toyota Kirloskar Motor halted the dispatches of their above-mentioned cars. So, what happened that they had to stop deliveries of their vehicles?
So, there were a few irregularities found in their recently produced Diesel engines. These irregularities were about the ‘horsepower output’ certifications. These certifications claimed the smoothhening of power and torque bands of the engines. Let us explain this in detail.
Toyota Industries Corporation or TICO is the primary brand of the Automotive brand, Toyota Motors. Whatever business field Toyota works in, is handled by them as a whole. They also manufacture Electrical and Mechanical components for their Automotive firm.
Recently, when they were manufacturing Diesel engines for a few of their vehicles - Fortuner, Hilux, Innova, Land Cruiser LC 300, Lexus LX 500d, etc. They found a minor issue while conducting the Horsepower output tests.
These tests are usually conducted to check whether the engines are working as per the desired tuning.
This issue was regarding the power and torque band of the particular engine. They found that the band or curve was smoothening in progression. Now, usually, while companies find such issues, there is one major concern, which is the misleading Power and Torque output values stated by the brand publically. But, fortunately, nothing of such was recorded or found in the investigation conducted later.
