We shall admit that the year 2024 for the Indian Automobile Industry has been a storm of patents. Literally every month, we have seen more than one patent filed in India for upcoming cars. Well, even today one patent file has been leaked, and it is from the class topper, Maruti Suzuki. The brand has homologated the design of its upcoming mini Electric SUV, which was also showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2023, the Suzuki eWX in India. This EV is an entry-level product, which aims to target the affordable segment. It will rival the likes of EVs, like MG Comet, and Tata Tiago.ev. Let us know more about this EV and evaluate, how this new small Suzuki SUV will change the game.
The eWX is a simple, basic-looking entry-level EV that focuses on the purpose more than its looks. We can also see a bit of resemblance to the MG Comet through eWX’s design but, still, Suzuki has managed to give the EV its own personality.
On the Front, we have a tall standing nose, with a closed grille being an EV. On top of its front fascia, it gets a stadium-shaped DRL housing, in between which the Suzuki has been placed. The Suzuki logo’s edges also light up.
Being a concept, we will not see any production-ready bits on this design but, we believe that Suzuki would probably place the headlamps higher on their conventional spot over the eWX production-ready version. The lower bumper would get a pair of fog lamps, and will also have some design bits, like on its concept.
The Side profile of the eWX is like a wall, totally straight. We can see that it gets stylish 15 inch alloy wheels, which have a ‘+’ sign-inspired design on them. The alloy size is quite big, which makes the tyre wall thin. Most probably, on the Indian-spec eWX, we would see smaller-sized alloy wheels to compensate for the road conditions. The wheel claddings are present but, they have been placed very low down. No wheel arches on the eWX.
The eWX happens to be a 4-door EV, which seems to have decent space inside. We believe that compared to the MG Comet, the eWX could deliver a better comfort package, though not as good as the Tiago.ev. Being a concept, Suzuki has showcased frameless doors on the eWX, which will not be the case on its production-spec version.
The Rear profile of the eWX is very similar to its front. It is exactly similar in design to Tail lamps with an illuminated Suzuki logo in between. The rear bumper also happens to be exactly similar in design.
Moreover, Suzuki has also revealed the dimensions of its upcoming eWX. The length of the eWX measures up to 3,395 mm, the width measures up to 1,475 mm, and the Height of the eWX measures up to 1,620 mm. This makes the eWX slightly larger than the MG Comet, but substantially smaller than the Tiago.ev.
The eWX’s interior is modern and filled with technology. Starting with, it gets a Single-screen setup, which works as both the Instrument Cluster and the Infotainment System. However, on the production version, it will be split in half, and most probably, they will be 10’ each in size. They will have new software that will be curated specially for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki EVs. They will have all kinds of gimmicky features, like Games, OTT streaming, etc.
The Steering wheel also has been cubically shaped, and it is a two-spoked unit. There have also been added some Quick function buttons on the dashboard, which control the AC, Hazard light, etc. The dashboard design is rectangular, too, with some plus and minus signs. Even the material used inside the cabin seems to be eco-friendly in order to promote Green energy.
The Center Console gets a rotary knob for Drive selection. Behind that has been placed the Electronic window controls for all four windows, and in between, the Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold feature. It also gets Seat Ventilation for both front seats and a USB-C Charging Port.
Overall, the design on the inside as well as the outside looks very minimal and on-point. There are no such unconventional bits or overdone bits throughout the design language.
Suzuki confirmed that it will have a driving range of 230 km, any battery pack details have not been shared but, we expect it to have a battery capacity of almost 20 kWh. This will help this upcoming Suzuki EV to deliver a real-world driving range of 180 km.
As of now, the EV has been patented by the brand, so we could expect its launch after almost a year, which is by late 2025. As the Suzuki Ev has just been patented, it will be first showcased as a concept to the Indian Audience, and then after road tests will begin.
The Price of the Maruti Suzuki eWX is expected to start from ₹7.5 lakhs.
