We uncover further details about the latest launch in the following guide. Keep reading to explore more:

Tesla’s Arrival in the Indian EV Market

Tesla Model Y India

Though the EV market in India is comparatively slow, the demand for EVs is increasing these days. In light of this, Elon Musk's electric vehicle business, Tesla, has formally launched the Model Y SUV into the Indian market. This comes after a long and uncertain journey, especially since Tesla had earlier criticized India’s high import duties.

The model will be available for the Indian buyers in two major variants, both priced between ₹60 Lakh to ₹70 Lakh. Deliveries of the booked models are expected to begin in late 2025. The car can be registered in Delhi, Mumbai, and Gurugram. Apart from this, Tesla will also open its first retail showroom in Mumbai, India.

Tesla Y: The Inaugural Model in India 2025

With its arrival in the Indian market, Tesla has inaugurated the same with the launch of the Y model. The Tesla Y model is already a leading vehicle in the global markets, and it’ll surely boost the competition among the upcoming and already established EVs. That being said, it’s being launched in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹60 Lakhs.

It’s said to have two different variants, having distinct price ranges but quite similar technological updates and features. However, details are yet to be disclosed. As of now, the features are said to be the same in both variants.

The Tesla Y (RWD) variant will have an EPA-estimated range of 574 km and the acceleration capacity of 0-100 kmph in just 5.4 seconds. The same goes for the Long Range RWD version, offering similar range but with an improved and more efficient engine. A better engine also means it would have quicker acceleration.

Variants and Price Details

Tesla’s Model Y is launched in India with a price tag of approximately ₹60 Lakhs. However, when we look at the US market, the price remains $44,990 (approx. ₹38.69 lakh). Similarly, it goes 263,500 Yuan (approx. ₹31.59 lakh) in China, and €45,970 (approx. ₹46.21 lakh) in Germany.

The reason behind the slight price difference for the Indian market is the high import duties (approx. 70%). This is further combined with the taxes and logistics as well, making the price higher. Apart from the Y model, Tesla is also expected to launch the Model 3 in India, which will have little benefit due to the country’s updated EV policy. This reduces high import duties, cutting the overall price of the Model 3— ₹30 Lakh to ₹40 Lakh.
