Tata Curvv-rival EVs with 500 km range launching soon in India

October 24th, 2024

The Curvv.ev or the Curvv EV is currently the most advanced and longest-running on full charge EV an Indian brand has made. Currently, the Curvv is the only EV in its Midsize SUV segment with no existing rivals but, there are a few that are on the way, like Maruti Suzuki eVX, Honda Elevate EV, etc. Except for these two products, there are two more products that are coming in to rival the Tata Curvv EV, the only difference is that their ICE alternatives are leading in their segments. We are speaking of the Kia Carens EV and the Hyundai Creta EV, which were also spied testing together in India, further hinting at a launch soon.

Midsize Electric SUVs -

As we mentioned, in this segment of Midsize Electric SUVs there is just one contender - Tata Curvv.ev. However, plenty of other car brands have already shown interest in launching their EVs in this segment. In fact, most of the brands have also showcased the conceptual versions of their particular EV -

Maruti Suzuki showcased its upcoming Born Electric Vehicle Platform and an EV built upon it in the 2024 Bharat Mobility Expo - the eVX. Moreover, the brand has confirmed that eVX could be launched in January 2025.

Honda also confirmed their Elevate EV project at the time of the Elevate ICE launch, and it could be launched soon by 2026.

To speak more about the Midsize SUV segment of EVs, it is considered as one of those segments where the EVs actually make sense, and could also be made as one’s primary vehicle. Like the Tata Curvv, it has been built on a new Acti.ev platform, which is Tata Motors’ own BEV platform. It offers a 55 kWh battery pack with a usable real-world range of 400 - 450 km. It gets the usual bits, like Fast Charging options, ADAS Level 2, 5 Star Safety ratings, two 10.25-inch screens, etc.

Hyundai Creta EV is considered the most important EV in the Midsize SUV segment after Curvv’s launch, as it is also the segment leader in its ICE format. The Creta EV has already been spied a couple of times on Indian roads, and the testing has been ongoing for almost a year, which tells us that the launch might happen soon.

To speak of its design, the Creta EV would undergo a few design tweaks, which would be EV-centered like it would have a different grille design which would be closed like all other EVs, it will have Aero inserts in the alloys, the interiors will have much cleaner look emphasising EV-culture, etc. The technology side of the Creta will also undergo some changes, like a new interface specific to the Hyundai EVs, the sizes of the screen would probably be the same at 10.25 inches with battery details, etc. Overall, the feature list of the Creta EV will be kept the same with a few new additions, like Electronic Tailgate, V2V & V2L Charging, etc.

A 55 - 60 kWh battery pack could power the Creta EV and deliver 400 km of real-world driving range.

Kia Carens EV Details

Kia Carens EV was spotted on the test for the first time, as till now, only the Creta EV has been spied on. But, we can see that Kia is trying to keep the design language of the Carens EV similar to some of its premium EVs - EV6 and EV9. The alloy wheel design gives it all out that the Carens EV would probably follow a similar design language from Kia’s EV lineup.

To speak more about its design, we believe Kia would take the same approach as every other EV brand takes, which is closing all air intake points, to shout “EV” as loud as possible. The technology side of the Carens EV will be different, too, in terms of its software and interface with integrated battery details. A few more features will be added, like in the Creta EV - Electronic Tailgate, V2V & V2L Charging. The screen sizes would be the same at 10.25 inches for both screens.

The Carens EV will also pack the exact same setup as the Creta EV, which could be a 55 - 60 kWh battery pack delivering 400 km of real-world driving range.

Kia Carens EV & Hyundai Creta EV Launch Date & Price Details

Both the Electric SUVs will not be launched simultaneously. Most probably, the Hyundai Creta EV will be launched first, following the Seltos and Carens EV. The launch though is expected to take place in the coming year 2025

The prices for both EVs are unknown but, we believe that compared to their ICE versions, they will be significantly priced, our guess - ₹1.5 - ₹2 Lakhs more expensive.
