Toyota has decided to take a completely new approach with its Land Cruiser EV concept; officially, Toyota calls it the Land Cruiser Se. So, let us take a look at the New Toyota Land Cruiser EV Concept debuts with High-Tech Design.

About the Toyota Land Cruiser 

Born in 1951, 72 years later still rules its segment as if there is no competition present. It was brought in by Toyota in order to have Japan’s own Land Rover-like vehicle. Back then, the Land Rovers were used by the British Military and were considered as one of the best in their jobs.

Earlier, it was mostly used by the Japanese Military for their operations, but eventually, it was revised and introduced to the common public as well. 

Today, the Toyota Land Cruiser is running in its seventh generation. Recently, the Land Cruiser globally received a comprehensive update, which made it enter into its seventh generation. Speaking of India, the Land Cruiser sold in India is still in its sixth generation, and the new seventh-generation model is yet to be introduced here in the nation.

Until now, the Toyota Land Cruiser had never got its EV avatar, so this particular debut makes it the first time for the Land Cruiser.

About the new Land Cruiser Se concept

As mentioned earlier, there has been a completely new approach taken to the new Land Cruiser Se concept; well, let us talk about that. 

The new Toyota Land Cruiser Se concept is different in almost every other way from its ICE sibling. It has a different design, a different purpose, and different fundamentals as well. It does not look forward to following what the ICE Land Cruiser has been following for a long time now, Robust Off-roadability. Instead of this, Toyota claims that the new Land Cruiser Se will cater to its audience with their desired needs, and if you are not aware of what needs Land Cruiser owners have, then it is nothing but sheer Comfort and Pleasant Drive. This time, Toyota decided to make the game more soft-core by adding the element of luxury into it. The design clearly depicts that there is no such want for the new Land Cruiser Se to go Off-road; rather it now believes in showing its maximum capabilities on the road.

But, as said, the Land Cruiser Se is still the same in a few factors, and there is one point on which the Land Cruiser Se stands very firmly it is Practicality . It has always been one of the key factors of the Land Cruiser. It has always stood tall and strong on this particular point, and so does the Land Cruiser EV. Toyota claimed that the Land Cruiser Se will be offered in a three-row seating configuration.

Design

In terms of design, everything has changed. Toyota decided not to carry any footprint of the current ICE Land Cruiser onto its EV avatar. The new Land Cruiser SE’s design is futuristic and contains many angles across the body lines. This, overall, makes the SUV look more subtle and modern. With new design elements used in the design language, the Land Cruiser Se shows a different path of purpose it is walking on. So, this was the overall idea of what the design of the Land Cruiser Se is about. Let us now take a deep dive into its design.

Front of the Land Cruiser Se

The front of the Land Cruiser Se is very different in terms of its design, but with respect to its appearance, it still stands upright from its front. The Land Cruiser Se contains a proportionate design for its front, where you would see various design elements distributed equally. 

Starting from the top, it gets a fine line for the DRLs, which run between both ends of the front. Though the DRL still sits on the top, unlike any other new-age designs. But this time, it has been kept connected in order to go with the trend. At both corners of the DRLs sit the Headlamp units. Over the concept, their design seems to be a depiction of LED projector beams; well, this could be surely known on the day of its launch.

Below that, there are two thick black lines running downwards and connecting to another black line sitting horizontally at the bottom. However, if you observe carefully, the vertical lines at both ends of the front are not actually lines, but they are two big Air curtains added for better aerodynamics of the vehicle.

More to it, if you look at the bottom two vertices, you will see squarish DRLs placed. Well, according to us, those might probably end up as the Fog lamps of the vehicle.

Other than this, the rest of the design is very simple yet attractive. It consists of clever shapes given to the front, and these shapes, overall, make the SUV look more different than its ICE brother.

Side of the Land Cruiser Se

At the side of the Land Cruiser Se, it looks super-stylish. The design makes the SUV look more lively and very good-looking, unlike its ICE version, where the whole silhouette of the vehicle is boxy. 

We can say it kind of feels like an oversized Land Rover Evoque from a few angles. But it can be fair, as they at least have not copied; inspiration is good. Starting off the wheels, the wheels are big and surely add a lot of presence to the vehicle. Moving upwards, the wheel claddings are healthy, too, and they run through the side, covering the rear as well. The wheel arches are massive, and both the front and rear wheels get it. In fact, the design and the placement of the wheel arches is the one that reminds us of the Evoque a lot. Anyways, there is a straight line running from the front wheel arch to the rear one, except this line, there are no such sharp lines running around the design.

The window area is proportionately smaller, which also makes the body area look bigger comparatively. Ultimately, this equation takes the presence factor of the vehicle a lot higher. There is also a design feature of a Floating roof added; this, overall, makes the SUV look a lot more stylish.

Rear of the Land Cruiser Se

The rear profile of the Land Cruiser Se is less angular and more of a circular wrap. Well, this design kind of goes off when stuck with the rest of the design, but we will not harshly comment on its design, as this is a concept. 

Like the front, on the rear as well, the Tail light has been kept connected. This thin line of red LED light makes the SUV look much broader from its rear.

Other than this, the rest of the design is very straightforward and doesn’t have any complexity. The Rearview glass, the diffuser, etc, all pack a simple design.

Powertrain of the Land Cruiser Se

The details regarding the battery of the vehicle and its launch date have not been disclosed officially by Toyota. Still, we assume it to have a massive battery in order to pursue its job of being a Full-size SUV.

The range of this battery pack might vary somewhere between 700 km - 800 km .

Expected Launch Date of the Land Cruiser Se

The expected launch date of the Toyota Land Cruiser Se can be assumed to be sometime after 4 - 5 years. As this SUV is still in its conceptual avatar, and it still needs to adapt itself according to real-life standards, we can expect this amount of time Toyota would take to get this SUV’s production avatar.  

Expected Price of the Land Cruiser Se

The expected price of the Toyota Land Cruiser Se could range around ₹1.5 Cr to ₹2.5 Cr.
