After Tata Motors hyped us up with the upcoming Curvv EV and Curvv ICE launch, MG has stepped into the game of Midsize SUVs, too. The already overcrowded section of the Indian Automobile Industry, which contributes a lot to every month’s car sales is soon going to get an addition from MG. What are we speaking of? Well, MG has teased its upcoming Electric MPV in India, which MG calls ‘CUV’ also known as Crossover Utility Vehicle. The brand will reveal the official name of this CUV on August 5, 2024.
Since JSW has bought MG India, the brand has shown serious interest in expanding its portfolio. It started with the mini EV - the MG Comet EV, and today, MG has teased its upcoming Electric 5-seater CUV. This CUV will be a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV, which is sold in the Chinese Automobile market. The official name of this CUV has not been revealed in India but, it will not be named ‘Cloud EV’ for sure!
On the other hand, the Wuling Cloud EV (upcoming MG CUV) is popular for its comfort offerings on a budget. This CUV is known to deliver a premium and subtle experience in the segment. The overall, silhouette of the CUV is much better than its rivals in China.
This Electric CUV will sit in the Electric Midsize SUV segment. The MG CUV also happens to be a 5-seater, which tells us that it will compete against the upcoming Tata Curvv EV. But, in this segment, MG already has an Electric SUV - MG ZS EV. Most probably, it will sit beside the ZS EV as its MPV alternative. Or maybe, the ZS EV might also get pushed in the upper segment with respect to the upcoming ZS EV update.
The upcoming MG CUV will be big enough to fit 5 passengers comfortably. The Dimensions of this CUV measure at 4295 mm and 1850 mm for Length and Width, respectively. The Height of this CUV is 1652 mm. This MG CUV happens to be wider and taller than the ZS EV.
MG’s upcoming ELectric MPV will host a 50 kWh battery pack. Chinese Authorities have also given this CUV’s battery an IP 67 Certification. This battery pack will be connected to a single motor at the front, further, making this MPV a Front wheel drive vehicle. This Battery pack will produce 134 hp and 200 Nm Torque.
The Driving range will be 460 km (Claimed by Wuling on its Cloud EV).
The Design of the MG CUV is very MPV-ish and might also look like the Maruti Ecco at times. However, it does embrace the traditional EV traits, which are Grille-less and simple design language. On the front, it gets a connected LED DRL placed above the Wuling logo (will be the MG logo once launched). Both ends of the DRL will also work as the Indicators. Below, the logo placement, we can see the front unit of the 360 degree camera system. Lower down, the CUV gets a closed grille treatment with silverish elements embedded, it also holds the Radar for the ADAS technology.
On the side, the Cloud EV runs on 18’ Diamond cut alloy wheels, it has not got any sort of wheel claddings or body arches above the wheels. The design goes proportionate till the rear end of the CUV. The door handles of this CUV will have a flush design treatment given, like on the XUV 7OO and the upcoming Curvv EV.
The rear of the CUV will get a connected Tail light treatment with integrated Indicators and Reverse light. The Stop lamp will be placed high above. It will also get a sunroof on the roof.
The Interiors of this MG CUV happen to have premium, soft-touch materials all around. It also gets plenty of features on offer in its cabin, like a 15.6-inch Infotainment screen with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, Automatic Climate control, All four Power windows, Rear AC vents, 256-color options for Ambient lighting, Two-spoke steering wheel, Panoramic sunroof, an 8.8 inch Instrument cluster, 360 degree Camera system, Front powered Seats, etc.
It also gets a few Safety features, like 4 Airbags (on the Wuling Cloud EV, the Indian model will have 6 Airbags, ABS, Traction Control, ADAS features, etc.
The Price Details of the upcoming MG Electric CUV are not declassified yet but, we believe that it would be positioned below the MG ZS EV. So, the prices could wander around ₹18 lakhs.
The launch date of the MG Cloud EV will be somewhere around August 2024. However, the official name of this Electric CUV will be revealed on 5 August.
