Scorpio N’s pickup version will be unveiled, it is bigger than the Scorpio N
Mahindra was in full blast mode in terms of launches for the past 3 years. First the Thar, Second the XUV 700 and then the Scorpio N. All these launches resulted in optimum success for the brand. But today, let’s ignore the XUV 700 and focus on the other two which are the Thar and the Scorpio N.
Mahindra unveiled two teasers a few days ago, one of them was revealing a few shots of the Thar’s electric version and the other one was teasing the Pickup version of the Scorpio N.
Both of these cars are going to be unveiled on 15 August, 2023 - in cape town, South Africa. Let’s talk about their known details -
Thar.e is going to be the name of the upcoming electric avatar of the gasoline Thar. This will be the first Indian as well as Mahindra’s Electric Off-roader. The concept of the car will be unveiled on 15 August, 2023 at Cape Town, South Africa.
It is assumed that it will get an all new platform. The platform will be a Born Electric platform from Mahindra. It will be specifically made to cater the future Mahindra’s electric SUVs, just as the gasoline Thar did for the Scorpio N.
We assume that the Thar.e might get a 40 - 50 kWh battery pack with quad motors which will individually power each wheel. Hence making it a 4 wheeled driven vehicle. We also assume that the battery pack which will be used to power the vehicle might be made by Mahindra in collaboration with Volkswagen.
Till now, by looking at the teaser, we can just figure out one feature which it could get -
We assume that it will be carrying the same dimensions as the current gasoline Mahindra Thar. Hence, making it a 3-door Electric off-roader.
It will run along the gasoline Thar in terms of its design language. The boxiness and straight lines will move throughout the car, just like the gasoline Thar.
We assume the price to be ₹ 1.5 - 2 lakhs more than the gasoline Thar, as it is an electrified version of it ( battery packs & other components used in an electric car are expensive ).
We expect the launch for its production specified model to take place in late 2024 or in the early 2025.
The already popular Scorpio N’s pickup sibling is about to be unveiled on 15 August, 2023. It will be showcased alongside the electric thar - Thar.e - at Mahindra’s Global launch event which will be held at Cape Town, South Africa. It is going to be a concept which could take its production avatar later. It will most probably be placed as a successor for Mahindra’s robust Scorpio Getaway.
It will be using the same platform which is currently underpinning the Mahindra Scorpio N. The platform will see some changes to adjust according to a Pickup truck’s purpose.
The dimensions of the car will be noticeably longer compared to Mahindra Scorpio N. This noticeable increase in length will be seen in the wheelbase which will also result in overall increased length of the truck. Usually a Pickup truck needs a longer wheelbase to accommodate the luggage bed behind.
It will be majorly redesigned from its rear end. The design change will be made to include the luggage bed in the car. Though, we can see some changes through the teaser as well -
It will be rich in terms of storage capacity as it will have a long, very much usable luggage bed behind. It will also open doors to carry big luggage easily. In fact, according to what can be seen in the teaser, it seems that the spare tyre might be placed in the luggage bed.
It will have the same powertrains as the Scorpio N -
Petrol -
2 L Petrol engine mated to both Manual & Torque converter gearbox.
Diesel -
2.2 L Diesel engine mated to Manual & Torque converter.
We expect the pricing to be decided to compete with the Toyota Hilux accordingly. So, somewhere between ₹ 25 lakhs to ₹ 35 lakhs can be expected.
We believe that the launch of the Scorpio N Pickup will be delayed by Mahindra due to two reasons -
