Electric Mobility is gradually though, but still gaining some traction in the Indian Automotive Market today. But, even though the progress of the overall EV industry is slow, the Car Makers are doing their best to acquire as much of the stage as they could.
As mentioned earlier, with respect to this ‘Slow gaining of Traction’ made by the EV market today in the Industry, many Car Makers are trying various business moves to stand out. And launching a sub brand has quite been into the trend of Automotive Industries of the World, yes, not only in India, but throughout the world.
We already know that Hyundai, Mercedes Benz, BMW, etc. are going to launch their EVs under the name of ‘Ioniq’, ‘Q’, and ‘i’ respectively. Therefore, just to be up to date, our Indian Car Makers also decided to join the show. Earlier it was Mahindra to launch their EV oriented sub brand, the B.E or Born Electric, and now it is our very own Indian Auto Giant, Tata Motors.
Recently, Tata Motors launched a new Sub Brand called Tata.ev. This sub brand is basically introduced by the brand to just launch their Electric Cars under the name, .ev; and also, as said to follow the trend of launching sub brands.
Tata.ev or .ev, whatever your preferences go for, will be a designated moniker for few of the Present as well as of the Future electric cars from the house of Tata Motors. Why ‘Few’ you ask, then basically, this ‘.ev’ brand is specifically for those Tata EVs, who already has or will have an ICE or Gasoline sibling, just like the Nexon, Tiago, and Tigor, which are currently being sold, and also the upcoming Punch EV or actually the Punch.ev so to speak.
Just for your Information, this decision of Tata Motors is not impulsive, because when the Tata Tiago.ev was launched about a year ago, at that time itself Tata Motors were sure footed with this decision. And that is why Tiago’s electric avatar was launched as ‘Tiago.ev’ and not ‘Tiago EV’.
Actually, one of the Media Houses, at the time of Tiago.ev’s launch event, interviewed Tata’s Marketing Head, Vivek Srivastava about - Why Tiago.ev, and not Tiago EV? For which he answered -
“This moniker (.ev) will be made official in the coming months. This will be our new sub brand, under which we will be launching the EV avatar of our specifically decided ICE vehicles.”

Well, this is being done just to create a simple differentiation and also to enter a new era, where they will be introducing new Technology, and Innovation with almost all of their launches.
But, if you ask me, What about the future Tata EVs, which will not have a Gasoline sibling, like the Avinya? Then to know about this, again we have to move towards Mr. Vivek Srivastava, as during the interview, he encountered this question too, for which he simply said -
“We have not yet decided what to call the Future Tata EVs, which will not have a Gasoline iteration.”
Note : The statement above made by a Tata Official has been modified for easy understanding.
Now to give you some intel about the Tata.ev’s logo, then it is a very simple logo, with writing in big Fonts says, TATA.ev, and below it ‘Move with meaning’. To elaborate more, the Tata.ev lettering basically states that this brand is nothing but Tata Motors’ new Electric sub brand, which will sell all the Current & Upcoming Tata EVs, under its name. We can also see a DOT orbiting around the '.ev' lettering, which basically tells us that everything - then whether it be a complete Car or one of its Technology - will move around each other showing connectivity, hence, creating an Environment.
To hear our opinion, this whole agenda of launching a new sub brand looks a bit dicey to us, as there are surely many Positives, but also few Negatives. And if the brand succeeds in dodging the cons of these decisions then, we believe, it will create a good impact on the brand. And with respect to this particular name, Tata.ev or .ev, we believe it will sound good on the TATA EVs, at least it is a bit different from the traditional ‘Nexon EV’ name tag.
