India’s New Favourite SUV Vs India’s Best-Selling SUV. Which Electric Offers Better Value in India?

March 3rd, 2025

The Indian automobile industry is also witnessing a major shift towards EVs, with manufacturing companies providing advanced models based on changing consumer preferences. Tata Motors is one such market leader who leads the market with EVs and the Tata Nexon EV becoming India's highest selling electric SUV. But with the launch of the MG Windsor EV, there has come fierce competition with premium, ample cabin space, and revolutionary ownership options.

A comparison of Tata Nexon EV and MG Windsor EV on a level playing field will assist in identifying the superior SUV to serve Indian customers. To this end, the two vehicles will be compared based on dimensions, features, powertrain, range, and price.

Dimensions and Space

If one is caught up in an SUV buying decision, space and size are also things to consider. The Tata Nexon EV measures 3994mm in length, 1811mm in width, and 1616mm in height. The car has a wheelbase of 2498mm, ground clearance of 190mm, and a boot capacity of 350 litres.

On the other hand, the MG Windsor EV is bigger than its competitors: it measures 4295mm in length, 2126mm in width, and 1677mm in height. With a long wheelbase of 2700mm, more legroom is ensured. In addition, the Windsor EV has a boot capacity of about 604 litres, which is much greater and can cater comfortably to families and long-distance travelers.

Windsor EV is much better in terms of space than Nexon EV. The longer wheelbase provides better comfort to the rear seat, and the larger boot provides more convenience to luggage carrying. For buyers who require more space in the interior and more storage space, the MG Windsor EV is the winner.

Features and Technology

TATA Nexon ev VS MG Windsor EV

The features of modern technology and comfort find importance in these SUVs as both are highly competitive in this segment. Tata Nexon EV, being a class of its own, has 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster display and 12.3-inch high-resolution infotainment with wireless apple car play and android auto. It gets JBL audio with nine speakers, 360-degree camera, electric sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, and ventilated leatherette seats in front.

MG Windsor EV has truly upped the ante with its 15.6-inch larger touchscreen infotainment display and fully digital driver's instrument cluster. Ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and tyre pressure monitoring system are all here. With a 360-degree camera also acting as a blind spot monitor, safety on the road is assured. Ventilated electric front seats add a touch of luxury to the experience.

While the Tata Nexon EV has a good mix of features, the MG Windsor EV is premium-tended. The ambient lighting, higher-screen infotainment, and panoramic sunroof give it a more premium feel. But others may prefer that the touchscreen interfaces of the Windsor EV are less convenient than the user-friendly physical buttons of the Nexon EV.

Powertrain and Performance

Performance of an electric vehicle is dependent on range, power, and battery pack. Tata Nexon EV gets two batteries. The first one is a 30kWh battery producing 127bhp and 215Nm of torque with a range of 325km. The second one is a larger 45kWh battery producing 142bhp and 215Nm with a much larger range of 489km.

MG Windsor EV comes with a 38kWh battery offering 134bhp and 200Nm torque. Range is given as 331km. Though the SUVs pride themselves with the same power delivery, the performance is better in Tata Nexon EV as the 45kWh model is more power-packed and longer ranged.

For customers who appreciate range in extended distance and peppier driving experience, the Nexon EV stands out with a 489km range. MG Windsor EV offers sufficient range for city use but may not be the best option for highway road travel for a long duration.

Pricing and Value for Money

Price then is an important aspect in determining whether an EV would be apt. The Tata Nexon EV retails for between Rs 13.24 lakh and Rs 18.09 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and is one of the most affordable electric SUVs available in India.

MG Windsor EV is the more expensive of the two at Rs 15.03 lakh to Rs 17.14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It is, however, equipped with an innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme whereby the customer pays to use the battery instead of purchasing it outright. That obviously reduces the amount significantly, and the Windsor EV is a lesser-cost option for customers who'd prefer lower monthly payments instead of paying a really huge upfront charge.

For the lowest ownership of EV, Nexon EV tariff model is a good option. But for others who are looking for payment term flexibility and lower upfront cost, the Windsor EV BaaS model is an innovative option.

Final Verdict: Which One Should You Buy?

Finally, the decision to go for either the Tata Nexon EV or the MG Windsor EV is entirely subjective. The Tata Nexon EV is the automobile in the first bracket with lower costs, with higher mileage, and maximum long-term value, people oriented. The car, which is excellent for highway road trips, has an additional driving range of up to 489km in the 45kWh variant. Besides this, it gives more preference to the traditional methods of operation, wherein button controls in the opinion of a few are easy to operate compared to the touchpad device operating systems.

On the other hand, the MG Windsor EV would suit someone looking for a bigger premium and high-tech SUV. It has a larger footprint and makes for an even cozier and more upscale cabin experience. The panoramic sunroof adds to this coziness, as well as the ambient lighting, and the wireless charging. A bonus would be the revolutionary Battery-as-a-Service model that tops it off for those really cash-strapped, upfront-cost-cut EV consumers.

For buyers who want an electric SUV with the best range and better performance, the Tata Nexon EV is still the better option. But for buyers who want a feature-packed, spacious, and easy-to-use EV ownership experience, the MG Windsor EV is a good option.

While both of these SUVs are the epitome of green mobility, it will be India's expanding EV market that has the last laugh based on whether one wants range and affordability or luxury and space.
