Citroen is going to launch its all-new crossover sedan known as the C3X (code: CC22) in India sometime next year. The C3X is going to be the third product that Citroen has launched on the CMP platform after its C3 hatchback and its upcoming 7-seater SUV version - C3 Aircross.
Citroen sources state that the C3X will come with a fastback oriented styling and will have SUV-like ground clearance making it unique in its segment. It is going to carve out its own niche in the sedan segment with its distinctive styling and cues on the path of the larger C4X and C5X that are sold in Europe. This will surely help the car to gain traction for the brand, as its already struggling to make high jumps.
The C3X will most likely share the same front look styling as the C3 AirCross, but will feature a streamlined roofline that will lead to a notch-back style tailgate. The C3X will share a lot of SUV like cues such as ground clearance similar to the C3 AirCross, large alloy wheels and rugged plastic cladding across its body. As for its dimensions, the C3X features 4.3-4.4 meters of length and shares the same wheelbase as the C3 AirCross SUV.
Citroen India has shown a common practice of sharing its parts among its different models to cut costs as seen in the C3, eC3 and the upcoming C3 AirCross, they do share a lot of interior elements with each other. We expect the upcoming C3X to also have common elements with the C3 AirCross SUV, including its digital instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment system, dashboard, steering wheel, seating and HVAC controls.
In terms of powertrain, the upcoming C3X will also share the same powertrain options as its cousins, along with its sole 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine which is capable of producing 110 hp of power will also be among its options. We also speculate that Citreon might bring a new sporty powertrain as its competition - VW Virtus, Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna and Honda City - pack some nice punchy powertrain in their lineup. So, we can expect an engine producing around 150 PS of power. There will also be an electric version of the model which will join the line-up at least six-months after the sedan goes on sale.
With ICE-version of the C3 AirCross due by July-August and its electric derivative launching in February 2024. The C3X is expected to be launched around July 2024 with its electric version coming six months later in January or February 2025. Upon its launch the SUV will likely rival the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Virtus and Skoda Slavia in the sedan segment.
This car might help the brand to boost their presence, as product really packs a punch. Even tough people are shifting towards SUVs, its not they have started hating sedans, audience would really accept a product like the C3X.
