Bharat NCAP's first crash results out, 2023 Tata Safari and Harrier are India's safest SUVs

Tata Motors is the pioneer of great safety in cars in India. Almost 80% of its cars have been awarded 5 stars in their safety ratings. Earlier, this month, the 2023 Tata Safari and Harrier were tested in the Global NCAP, and they scored the maximum points any car scored in Global NCAP crash tests. Moreover, recently, Bharat NCAP released their first test results, in which they tested the same 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari, and yet again, they have been awarded 5 stars for safety. So, let us go through their performance in the Bharat NCAP, and see how much they scored in specific. 


2023 Tata Harrier / Safari B NCAP Safety Ratings -

Bharat NCAP mostly focused on the Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, and Safety Assist’s scores during this test, and it will do the same in every one of their further tests, too. They performed these tests by making both the vehicles crash in a total of two ways - Frontal Offset Barrier Crash and Side Pole Impact Crash.

Frontal Offset Barrier Crash Test -

This particular test includes the vehicle made to crash an offset barrier from its front end. The maximum one vehicle can score in this test is 16 points. This test focuses on the safety of a total of six body parts - Head, Chest, Pelvis, Thighs, Calves, and Foot. These scores are given in terms of the post-crash condition of these mentioned body parts, which could be Good, Adequate, Marginal, Weak, or Poor

The 2023 Tata Harrier and Safari scored a total of 14.08 points in this test. The post-crash condition of the dummy’s Head, Pelvis, Thighs, Left Calf, and Foot was Good. The Chest was Marginal, and the Right Calf was Adequate in terms of their conditions.

Side Pole Impact Crash Test -

The Side Pole Impact Crash is conducted by making the vehicle’s Driver side crash into a pole. This helps to know the structural rigidity of the chassis in use, and of course, the safety of the passengers, too. In this test, one vehicle can score a maximum of up to 16 points. This test focuses on the safety of a total of four body parts - Head, Chest, Stomach, and Pelvis. These scores are also given in terms of the post-crash condition of these mentioned body parts, which could be Good, Adequate, Marginal, Weak, or Poor

The 2023 Tata Safari and Harrier scored all the 16 points in this test. All the mentioned body parts of the dummy were stated in Good condition. 




The Global NCAP also mentioned that the 5 stars given to both vehicles are applicable to all of their variants. In fact, the variant on which the tests were made was Tata Safari Adventure + .
